The Standrod House was built by Drew & Emma Standrod. The constuction began in 1895 & was finished in 1902. It is the finest example of victorian architecture in the state of Idaho. Mr. Standrod was a banker, a lawyer & judge. He was also a member of the original drafting committee for the Idaho constitution in 1889. Emma Standrod was an active community leader involved in literary & music clubs. The Standrod House was a scene of many international social events. The sixteen room house was designed by San Francisco architect Marcus Grunfor. The cost was approximatley $12,000 & took seven years to complete. The stone was quarried at nearby McCammon Idaho, hauled by wagon & prepared by masons in the backyard. The coal furnace provided central heationg & the home was equiped with electric lighting that was said to be the first in the state. In 1974 the city of Pocatello bought the house & undertook the restoration for the bicentential. Extensive repairs were made to exterior & the interior, taking great precaution to restore the home to its original granduer. Upon completion the city began using the building as a museum & event center. The house was a cultural center & used by the public for many years. It has been privatley owned for the last 15 years.
The Standrod House - Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Circa 1900 Victorian Queen Ann.
